Dear Concerned Student:
Sorry,
I am not allowed in schools!
Sincerely,
God
----------------------------------------------------------
How did this get started?...
-----------------
Let's see, I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained She didn't want any prayer in our schools.
And we said, OK.
------------------
Then, someone said you better not
Read the Bible in school, The Bible that says "thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, And love your neighbors as yourself,"
And we said, OK...
-----------------
Dr. Benjamin Spock said We shouldn't spank our children When they misbehaved Because their little personalities Would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem.
And we said, An expert should know what he's talking about So we won't spank them anymore..
------------------
Then someone said Teachers and principals better not Discipline our children when they misbehave. And the school administrators said No faculty member in this school Better touch a student when they misbehave Because we don't want any bad publicity, And we surely don't want to be sued.
And we accepted their reasoning...
------------------
Then someone said, let's let our daughters have abortions if they want, And they won't even have to tell their parents.
And we said, that's a grand idea.
------------------
Then some wise school board member said, Since boys will be boys And they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all the condoms they want, So they can have all the fun they desire, And we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school.
And we said, that's another great idea...
------------------
Then some of our top elected officials said It doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs.
And we said, It doesn't matter what anybody, including the President, Does in private as long as we have jobs and the economy is good....
------------------
And someone else took that appreciation a step further And published pictures of nude children And then stepped further still by Making them available on the Internet.
And we said, everyone's entitled to free speech.....
------------------
And the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and movies that promote Profanity, violence and illicit sex... And let's record music that encourages Rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes...
And we said, it's just entertainment And it has no adverse effect And nobody takes it seriously anyway, So go right ahead.
------------------
Now we're asking ourselves Why our children have no conscience, Why they don't know right from wrong, And why it doesn't bother them to Kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.
------------------
Undoubtedly, If we thought about it long and hard enough, We could figure it out. I'm sure it has a great deal to do with...
"WE REAP WHAT WE SOW" ==================================== Pass this on If you think it has merit! If not then just discard it... But if you discard this thought process, Remember that you shouldn't sit back and complain about What bad shape this country is in!!
Happiness is a journey...Not a destination

| | | | | That is really sad, it is all blamed on anyone as long as we don't take the blame ourselves
"To know, is to know you know nothing." -Confucius |
| | | | | re-reading what I said, I think more is needed. It is really sad that many of us blame someone or something when we thinkof what this writing says. Mind you, this writing says it right, we did it. All of us. Let's put the blame where it belongs and keep it there. Sacrificing what our parents believed, for the equality of today. Was it worth what really happened? I do not think so. I am not a Christian, but I do believe these things were nessasary, to help ground us as we grew.
So we did it, no one else. Not the Muslims or Islamics, or jews or whoevere...we the humans did it all. Stop blaming others and let's take the blame as we should!

| | | | | At the risk of stepping on some toes, I'm going to respond to this.
Has anyone actually thought about the logic behind that original post? I mean.........really?
I know it's so tempting to see something and think "wow....that sounds great! Let's pass it around".............but do you really think about how logical it really is, first?
Firstly, I'm going to play devil's advocate here (no pun intended). If your god was such an almighty god, as is claimed by those who believe in him, do you honestly think that humans would have the power to keep him/her/it out of a school?
We're talking about a deity that is believed, by it's followers, to have created the universe in six days, destroy the living sans a few chosen, by a flood and {insert any miraculous and supernatural phenomena credited to it in the bible} with very little effort. Do you honestly believe that a mere speck of it's supposed creation could keep it out of a classroom?
Some people get so caught up in an idea of something that they fail to see whether any logic about it exists or not.
On the flip side of the coin, no one took prayer out of schools. Schools still give a moment of silence for anyone to pray if they wish.
As far as violence, rape, murder etc. that kids are exposed to on tv.............um.......have you not read the bible? I mean.....front page to back, completely read it? It's the bloodiest, most violent collection of stories ever written.
Is seeing a gang member off someone any worse than your god sending two female bears to mutilate and rip children apart for simply making fun of someone's bald head?
Secondly, a lot of things mentioned in that initial post, have been going on for ages.........they're just more publisized now than before. There was a time when people didn't want to hear about things like that and people were afraid to tell.
You also have to take into consideration the growing population. More people in the world means more violence and anything else mentioned.
|
| | | | | Then some wise school board member said, Since boys will be boys And they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all the condoms they want, So they can have all the fun they desire, And we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not to mention, things like this that get passed around are usually highly exaggerated. Abstenence is emphasized in sex education in schools, but it would be foolish to believe that kids at that age don't have sex and just bury our heads in the sand. Teaching them safe ways to do it if abstenence isn't their option, is far better than pretending they won't be doing it if it isn't discussed.
I could go on about the others as well, but if you're capable of going back and reading it logically, I shouldn't have to. If you aren't, then it's moot anyways.
| | | | | An all powerful God has also the ability to let the little speck have it's own will. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to disparage His character. The image you are created with includes the ability to choose. To keep prayer out of school; (please spare me the moment of silence garbage; there are courts all over the US 'legislating' any type of prayer out of any school-related activities); to allow killing of infants as "choice", and to propagate promiscuity and mindless violence for their own sake.
You compare Hollywood's violence and sex to the Bible. Tell me, what meaning does that provide to you? Read the scriptures in context (logically), and you'll see that all that violence you mention has a meaning, it points to someone and something; it's not there to sell things... but then, you're not interested in meanings, you're interested in life on your own, by your own.
have fun.
| | | | | I've read the bible from front to back, twice.
Have you?
Your assumptions that your "god allows you to do this" only applies to those who believe in your god. It applies no more to an atheist, than Lord Krishna or Muhammad's words mean to you. Or any of the other 200+ religions and creator gods written about in history. Yours having no more evidence to support it's existance than theirs does.
As far as prayer in schools and leading of congressional meetings go, it would do you well to read what your Jesus said about praying out loud, that those are the hypocrites, and to pray silently in the privacy of your own home.
|
| | | | | Yes, I've read through the bible several times. Actually, I've stopped counting how many times I've read the bible, since I read it everyday. And if you bother to read it a third time, you might stop to think for a second that Christ was preaching against hypocritical showiness, not praying in public; the majority of the New Testament is filled with people praying together, in public and private. The publican went home justified, yet he was praying in public as well as the hypocritical pharisee. Although I suppose that's a nice argument to use to keep faith out of the public arena. Christ is concerned with the position of your heart, not following some sort of slavish practice to ensure you don't offend some atheist's or humanist's delicate sensibilities. He also taught the disciples to pray, and didn't caveat that sample with "go sit in your closet and be quiet."
And it might do you well to check the historical, geological and archaelogical record; the New Testament has a tremendous amount of evidence backing it up. Unlike Lord Krisha or Muhammed.
