Hi everyone, as many of you know I've been having migraines, tension headaches, and jaw pain. Well I saw my dentist this morning and he did a TMJ assessment.

I'm going to need a new bite plate, this one will be different then the one I currently have. I will keep this bite plate in 24/7 except when I clean it. Yes that means I will be eating with it in my mouth.

Once I have 2 consecutive 1 month check up's with him where he didn't need to make any adjustments to my bite plate and I am pain free then he will reassess my jaw and what needs to be done.

Best case scenario I wont need anything further then that, worst case I would need surgery, middle of the road I'd need either braces or something done to my teeth to make my "bite" better so I am out of pain.

That said, I have several appointments that I will need for this to be done.

Today I am going to see my Doctor after work for something for pain. The Percocet I have at home is not touching my pain.

I am going back to the dentist tomorrow for a complete exam (I got in on a cancellation) and have my x-rays done. I will be there for 11:30 am and back and it will take me until about 1 pm.

Then Thursday morning at 9:30 am I go back to see the dentist I saw today and he will review my x-rays and my exam notes and will assess exactly what I need done, and I will be able to schedule this in.

He really thinks this will help me to finally be pain free, and possibly this is the cause of all my migraines.

Hi everyO/one i saw my dentist again today and had x-rays taken. He is going to refill one of my fillings first so the bite plate will be fitted correctly since it is molded against your teeth. First though he will be giving me a different bite plate, this one will cover my top front teeth (about 4 or 6 of them) to help my muscles in my jaw relax because they are very tense and i can't open my jaw wide, he's worried that he wont have enough room to fit me for the bite plate for my lower teeth.

As for pain control he told me i can take "Robaxacet" which is commonly used for back pain but it is a muscle relaxer as well so i will give that a few days and see how it goes.

I've been having muscle spasms in my jaw since Friday. I called my dentist on Monday but they didn't have a cancellation. I came home sick from work on Monday after just 30 minutes of working and stayed home sick yesterday. I have no sick time left so I'm in today.

My dentist is fitting me in tomorrow at 1 pm to start work on my bite plate (I still see him next Thursday to replace my old filling) Right now I can't chew food at all and the Robaxacet isn't helping at all and neither is my current bite plate.

I sleep but wake up pretty much hourly from the pain. I did call his office today but no cancellations. So I'm on soft food for now and depending on how long before I get my bite plate it could still be a good month before I see any improvement. I'm limited on what medication I can take due to my acid reflux.

So I went in yesterday to see the dentist. My mom's visiting and she wanted to come along so she did.

He didn't talk about surgery. (thank goodness) and he did get the full details of how I've been since I saw him last Thursday.

He made me a "de-programmer" it's basicaly a small bite plate that covers only the top 4 teeth at the front of my mouth. I don't wear it all the time, only at bedtime. It's not a long-term thing. It basically is there so that my back teeth don't touch and that should help the muscles relax.

It's a tight fit, which it needs to be so it doesn't fall off. It hurt my teeth but once I fell asleep I didn't wake up once! (First time I slept through the night in a week or two)

I see him next Thursday for a filling. I will be calling the office today just to let them know how my first night with it went. Next Thursday he will see how I'm doing since he's on vacation for 2 weeks or so after that.

I have my next 3 appointments, August 13th for the impressions of my teeth, August 22nd for the fitting of the bite plate, then September 12th (possibly earlier for all of these if there are cancellations) will be when he gets the bite plate back from the lab that makes them, and he will adjust the bite plate at that time.
