Let me ask you. If I feel someone is being "abusive" and they don't think they are. How do you make that determination for both parties involved? I find interpretations of online behavior can be very subjective as people tend to personalize or fail to see/accept how they act.

It depends on the situation and the context really. Some people complain purely to complain and try to get other kicked off the site because they have a long standing grudge. I can pretty much see through that most of the time. However, if it's continued bullying or obvious rule breaking even after numerous warnings we will take action.
Everything is handled case by case and at the end of the day it's my judgment that counts. I think I'm quite clear and fair in dealing with issues on the site and run it by what I think is common sense (obviously common sense is sometimes up for debate). This is the reason I don’t chat on here because I would be influenced by those I would chat with.
The general forums are meant for civil discussion without name calling. NHB is for everything else and was created AFTER the rest of the site due to the issues we had previously.
I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people to understand the rules and especially those that frequent these areas the most. You are warned and banning is the last resort.
I just won't put up with idiots who can't follow the rules anymore, regardless if that results in fewer users on the site. I don't make a living from the site and expenses are proportional to the number of users so I really don't care either way. |

I've found your judgement very fair over the years. I respect you want to remain objective.
I am in concert with you about civility. I bite my tongue often on the boards. I recognize when someone has an instigate behavior as you can feel them trying to draw you out
But you find people no matter where you go who think they are above the rules or that they don't apply to them. I attribute it to a blindness to the ego or maybe its allowing the ego to rule one's intelligence.

Causual observation by any non-biased person on the forums would clearly show that Master Sanctimonious Prick is by far the worst offender.
Yet he is still allowed on the site!
Actually he's just been banned for flaming on a recent topic.
hopefully now this forum will be a place for all to voice their honest politial differences in a civilized manner.
I applaud you for making it such a place!
Already the discourse appears to be on a much high level here. |

The voters in the US are divided approximately 40-40 with 20 % in the middle.
Yet I would say there is only about 10%
extremists on either side that contaminate the
discussion.
Interestingly enough the more extreme views expressed here are from non-americans.
That is a positive sign!

I have been on this site for a long time, pretty much from the beginning. I agree that things have gotten far out of hand recently, although part of the result is something I do not agree with. We have several people, who push the envelope on others so hard, that it brings on flaming at times. The flamer then gets banned, as was in this SP's case in a way. We all need to be a little more understanding of the idea that different people have different views. I say this, because several of the people commenting right here, on how good this system works, are the antagonists. I should know, they push my buttons every time they get the chance. All the way to the point that I have been warned. Seems to me, these people need to understand that the system can work against them as well. people in charge, will eventually tire of baiters and antagonists.
What i am asking, is right here in front of the man himself, we all start to think about dropping the attacks and get back to the talk. We are not all the same. that does NOT mean we must attack each other on a personal level. that will only lead to problems. thank you

| | | | It sounds to me that what you are saying is that it irritates you when someone has the gall to disagree with you. You lose your temper and then whine that someone pushed your buttons . This is afterall an adult site and even in these moderated forums it is expected that you be an adult. Could I recommend a good temper management course for you?

| | | | Simply, you have just pointed out why I say what I say. the ONLY time i have whined is when pretty much told to go right ahead because nothing would happen. I am saying here, that instead of acting like the truth is the domain of only one person, let us debate like adults, without insult. The insults are juvenile. If someone must say things in a stronger tone, at least to me, say it in a PM. I am trying to lower the tension here with these posts, not give you more ammunition for cheap shots like that last one. If you wish to have this conversation without boundaries, do it in PM or in the NHB threads. I do not think I ask much with that and I think I echo people who count around here. Are you big enough to step within these ideas?

I have asked you to stop the attacks and the insults. I would say I have asked about as calmly as is possible. Please do not try to find a way to blame me if you continue and you do not care for the result. Cradz is a very fair man, diplomatic to a fault at times.
Not a single soul here can say I did not do what I could to stop the insults and the improper wording against me. It is someone else's turn, perhaps I do not have strong enough light bulbs?
