You and I have a different idea of what is a lie then. You and I omit things everyday that I don't consider a lie. Every time you log onto Porkies you are omitting some truths about yourself. To you that would be a lie. To me it is not a lie. It is an omission meant to be an omission.
Even in the scrap of tape that first came out there are truths. Don't we want these truths? Of course we do. These are some of the things I would like to see come out of an investigation.
Remember "You will be on Glenn Beck"! Remember Mr. Jealous saying those who attended the NAACP fund raiser where racists! Did the president of the NAACP retract that statement? Why?

No doubt our opinion differs. But I don't go off in a strange direction that has nothing to do with what the people I am speaking with meant. But, That is okay, we are accustomed to disagreement. The reality is, to omit something in the present which will no doubt cause problems in the long run, is stupid, if not wrong. There are people like this one we are discussing, in all walks of life. They make it harder for those of us that consider ourselves honest people. I do not care who they are, bring them to justice, show them for what they are. let them rot somewhere.
If we all worked on the assumption that what is accepted as true, is really true, there would be little hope of advance...... Orville Wright

The Second Court of Appeals today (8/13/2010) said Congress was right in withholding federal funds that would have gone to ACORN. Now ACORN can only hope that a try at free speech or due process will make it through the court process starting with Judge Nina Gershon in Brooklyn. How odd is it that the CEO, Bertha, did not return calls?
Meanwhile, actual lawyers must have gotten through to Shirley Sherrod.
We have been told that both were total shams brought to you by Andrew Breitbart. I guess they were not after all.

"I will not throw ACORN and Shirley Sherrod under the bus and drive over them." Gratuitous Cartoon

bree (8/13/2010) The Second Court of Appeals today (8/13/2010) said Congress was right in withholding federal funds that would have gone to ACORN. (snip)
I call bullshit. They said nothing of the sort. What the three judge panel (consisting of two Republicans and one conservative Democrat) ruled was that targeting ACORN and withholding funds from an organization that had not convicted of any crime without giving them a chance to defend themselves did not amount to a Bill of Attainder, and therefore was not unconstitutional. Four independent investigations proved that ACORN did nothing wrong.
We are now working on getting the government to apply those same laws to the many companies that do NOT help the poor and minorities, who have actually been CONVICTED of felonies (and there are many, particularly felony fraud), and who still have contracts funded by the US government. But there are a lot of powerful people with a lot of money invested in those companies, and they don't want to lose their profits.
I know I've been away for awhile, so I must have just missed all of your posts where you're as angry about THOSE companies and contractors getting your taxdollars as you have been about ACORN.
Meanwhile, independent organizations run by people who used to work for ACORN are still fighting for power for the poor and minorities - because it's what they do. And the donors are coming back. And yes, some of them are still working with government agencies like HUD to keep families from becoming homeless and neighborhoods from falling into urban decay.
Anyone who's been involved in a community organization or any other sort of volunteer work will tell you, doing this sort of work is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes a lot of patience and hard work.
Meanwhile, actual lawyers must have gotten through to Shirley Sherrod.

Actually, yes, they were. Andrew Brietbart still has several lawsuits against him pending, and more are being drawn up and filed as we speak. The wheels of justice turn slowly, but they do turn.
And the really good part is that his credibility (except with those who watch Faux News of course) has been permanently damaged. He won't be able to destroy careers with selectively edited videos ever again.
In fact, he's now become part of the urban dictionary:
Breitbarted - To take what someone has said out of context for the purpose of slandering them.
Taken from the last name of rightwing political operative Andrew Breitbart.
As George Bush so eloquently put it, “There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on, shame on you. Fool me, you can’t get fooled again.”
